Upcoming Events

Hello Friends,

The snow melted, the cherry blossoms bloomed and snowed their petals all over the tot lot.  Now the weather is heating up and the Friends of Greenwood Playground (FoGP) have been hard at work finalizing plans for our 2010 season.  Here is what we’ve been up to:

We have many things to celebrate!
----------------------------------------------

FoGP was honored for our work at the Parks XYX Luncheon at the Central Park Armory.  Accomplishments cited include the creation of our website, www.friendsofgreenwoodplayground.bbnow.org, our volunteer recruitment efforts, our broadened scope of programming, and focus on sustainability.

We received the Partnerships for Parks Capacity Fund Grant for the 3rd year in a row!

We received $1000 to aid in the production of a professionally-designed brochure.  Stay tuned!

First Ever Greenwood Playground Flea Market

--------------------------------------------------------------

Our Flea Market was a great success.  Over 50 vendors and six acts of music and entertainment drew over 1500 visitors to the playground.

Fundraising Update

---------------------------

We raised over $1000 with our raffle, t-shirt sales, and tote bags at the First Ever Greenwood Playground Flea Market

Summer 2010 Programming Season

-------------------------------------------------

We are gearing up for a fantastic summer season.  And it’s bigger than ever!  We’ve got the KWT International Movie Festival, Studio at the Library with Dari Litchman of Papi’s Mami, Hip Hop with Cynthia King, Greenwood GreenKids Gardening series (in partnership with the East 4th Street Community Garden), Caregiver/Child Yoga with Namaste, Fine Art with Private Picassos, singalongs and music classes with Miss Katie, Debbie Deane, and Michael Harren, Puppets in the Park, and an adult Derby Fit class with the Gotham Girls Roller Derby. Check out the flyer for details (attached).

We have expanded our programming to include fun stuff for adults!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADULTS – come check out the KWT International Movie Fest.  We have tentatively planned to show The Princess Bride (United States, 1987), The Diamond Arm (Brilliantovaya Ruka, Russia, 1968), and A Match Made In Heaven (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, India, 2008).

The Gotham Girls Roller Derby will hold an eight-week Derby Fit class for adults designed to whip you into shape.

In the past Greenwood has had a Programming Associate who worked only with children.  We are so proud that we were one of just two Brooklyn parks to receive this honor and are proud to be able to engage Kensington/Windsor Terrace’s elderly population in healthy outdoor activities.

Unfortunately the only thing growing on our trees is leaves

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We almost have enough money to purchase used equipment for the KWT International Movie Festival.  Renting is slightly less expensive.  If we receive about $1500, we will not have to waste money on sound and projector equipment fees.

Making a donation is easy and secure.  Go to our website and donate via PayPal.

Will you be our Friend?

--------------------------------------

FoGP needs more hands on deck.  We anticipate that we'll need some Friends to devote a few hours to the KWT International Movie Festival and to our big October event – the Harvest Hootenanny.  Since you'll be there anyway, let us know when you can help out.  If you can't be there the day-of, we need Friends to post flyers.

Make new Friends!

--------------------------------

Looking ahead, "Story and Play" will resume at the Windsor Terrace Library as soon as the weather chills.  "Story and Play" is a way for friends and neighbors to meet during the cold winter months.  FoGP will be bringing a live entertainer to each session (think music, dancing, magic, and more!).   If you're interested in helping us host the event, it will be a great way to get to know your neighbors!  Shoot us an e-mail to let us know you are interested.

See you on the swings!
